Unusual Signs
Managed By: Icon Here Spell Checkers.
The idea of this category is to find and mark incorrect or confusing official signs. They can be printed or pictorial signs that have corrupted the English or any other language (please include English translation and explanation) or are just plain confusing. These would also include funny or misdirected road or directional signs. Upside down is also accepted if it is clearly a permanent orientation and not the temporary influence of attachment failure or storm damage.
Expanded Description:

  • Signage

Definition of a sign for this category: Symbols or words whose function is to provide clear directions, identification, information, orientation, warnings, regulations or restrictions.

Incorrect signs are found in the most unusual places that were erected in good spirit with mistakes in typing, printing or just posted in bad English or the language of the region they are located in. Confusing, hilarious or even sarcastic signs may be submitted here. Note: A sign in an airport that is within the secure area (or any other secured location) would not fit this category as only people with tickets would be able to view the sign.

  • They must be permanent signs or billboards and not hand written or temporarily posted such as garage sales or other vending signs.

  • If they are grammatically correct but have punctuation or unknown wording, they also qualify.

  • For English language signs: Canadian/British spelling variation of words will not be accepted as being 'Unusual'. This holds similarly for other languages.

  • Examples include:

Fish & Ships - Misspelling: should be Chips

Cocktales only $1.99 - Misspelling: should be Cocktails.

    Misspelling: Women's

    Misspelling: Unleashed Dogs

  • NOTE: In the 'Long Description' box, describe the mistake or what strikes you as being funny, as they are not always immediately recognizable, but once explained they should become apparent to the visitor. So be descriptive and show us what makes the Waymark UNUSUAL. The bulk of the text in the long description must be left black.
  • Instructions for Posting a Unusual Signs Waymark:

  • Please read Expanded Description (show additional information link on category page) before posting a new Unusual Signs Waymark.
