LEGO Sculptures and Models
Managed By: Icon Here LEGO 'plays good'
Description:
LEGOs (TM) are a versatile construction toy that has evolved into a viable sculpture and model medium which artists use to create permanent pieces for the public to enjoy. Please limit submissions to two (2) creations per person at each location (most commonly a LEGOLand or LEGO Store), meaning multiple Waymarkers can each submit two pieces at the same location. Please click on "show additional information" below to see requirements for posting in this category.
Expanded Description:

We are looking for items made from LEGOs (TM) that are unique and impressive. Items may include sculptures, models of historic buildings or locations, etc. The LEGO-constructed item should involve complexity, scale or size and purpose. The piece should be predominantly constructed of LEGOs, but may include other materials that enhance the piece. The LEGO sculpture/model must not be a mass produced LEGO product. The goal is to find unique LEGO creations by artists or educators.

The LEGO-built piece must be permanent and open to the public (pieces found in secure areas of airports, train stations, etc., are not open to the public and not Waymarkable). The location of the piece may be free of charge or have an admission price. The location may be outdoors or indoors and may be available seasonally as long as it is a permanent item. Please limit submissions to two (2) creations per person at each location (most commonly a LEGOLand), meaning multiple Waymarkers can each submit two pieces at the same location.

Instructions for Posting a LEGO Sculptures and Models Waymark:

LEGO Sculptures and Models are becoming more common as artists explore ways to interpret their vision with classic LEGO blocks and other LEGO accessories. Other materials may be used as long as an overwhelming majority of the sculpture/model is made of LEGOs. The sculpture/model must be a permanent piece; temporary pieces will not be allowed.

LEGO Sculptures and Models may be outdoors or indoors. If indoors, there must be generous hours to visit the piece. If there is an admission fee, that must be noted, as well as visiting hours.

The LEGO sculpture/model may be seasonal if the piece needs to be stored because of inclement weather. However, the sculpture/model does need to be available to the public for a significant period of time that would allow for a visit; months instead of days when it is available. Availability will need to be noted in the variables. We will not accept a temporary exhibit that ends at a set time.

Please limit submissions to two (2) creations per person at each location (most commonly a LEGOLand), meaning multiple Waymarkers can each submit two pieces at the same location.

Examples of LEGO Sculptures and Models include:

- WMDJBN Space Shuttle & Launch Pad Replica - Cypress Gardens, FL
- WMA0EJ Bald Lego guy at Lego Discovery Center - Duisburg, Germany
- WM2NTP A LEGO Apple - Appleton, WI
- WMD7MB Nessie, Sighted in Downtown Disney - Orlando, FL
- WM18E9 Legoland Bison - Carlsbad, CA

A temporary piece such as LEGO Shark which was found at the annual festival 'A Taste of Colorado' in Denver, Colorado, USA, in 2011 is NOT acceptable. The LEGO sculptures were only available from September 2nd through the 5th of 2011.

While the criteria for approval of a LEGO Sculptures and Models should be clear, the decision of the Leader/Officers will be final.

Instructions for Posting a LEGO Sculptures and Models Waymark:

1. The piece must be a public sculpture or model comprised primarily of LEGOs (TM). The piece should involve complexity, scale or size and purpose.

2. Must provide accurate coordinates using Waymarkings’ default of lat/long in decimal minute per the WGS84 datum (most GPSr's default datum) and have actually visited the Waymark.

3. Minimum of two photos that you have personally taken that show the piece as best as one can. Close-ups really add to the Waymark and often two photos are not enough. Make sure your photos show this is a LEGO sculpture/model. You are strongly encouraged to upload as many photographs to really ‘show off’ the piece. If a plaque is available with additional information, upload this photograph, too! Do not include your GPSr or yourself in the default Waymark photo. An appropriate time to include people is to show scale.

4. Naming requirement: Title of Piece (or unknown if not known) - City, State/Province/Country (whichever is appropriate). Example: A LEGO Apple - Appleton, WI Quotation marks are not needed around the title of the sculpture/model.

5. In the "Long Description" field, include a brief description of the piece. Try to find out interesting facts about the piece such as how many LEGOs used, time to create, purpose of the creation, artist or group who constructed, how piece was designed, hours to build. Please cite your sources. The bulk of the text in the long description must be left black. If the post is not in English, it would be very nice to have an English translation - though this is not required.

6. Location of the piece including and, if applicable, hours, fees, dates available.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

Enjoy taking your photos from varying angles to really show off the beauty of the LEGO Sculpture or Model. Please include your impressions of the piece.
