American Guide SeriesPurgatory Chasm State Park - Sutton, MA

in American Guide Series

The description of the park in 1937 is pretty spot on today. Other theories on how it came about happened "when glacial meltwater from a burst ice dam ripped out blocks of bedrock"

This area has really been built up since 1937, when Lake Ripple was probably a great place to go fishing. Seems it may still be a popular spot for fishing.

I drove passed this site 3 times before I found it, refusing to give up on it. Sits under a tree, so it is in the shade, which acts as a camouflage of sorts. Considering its age, it is in great condition.
