Mosaics - A Waymarking.com Category

In this category, we're interested by every type of mosaic (ancient and modern), as long as it has been produced as a work of art. The mosaics may be outdoors or indoors, but must be generally available to the public.

The characteristics of a mosaic are:
- an artistic purpose;
- usually, VERY SMALL pieces;
- pieces with different colors and shapes, sometimes with different materials used at the same time; each piece has its own color;
- the juxtaposition of these pieces form something recognizable (characters, animals, landscapes, forms...) or simply decorate a construction, a statue, a fountain...

TITLE REQUIREMENT
Title of Piece (or unknown if not known) - City, State/Province/Country (whichever is appropriate). Example: The Good Life - Toronto, Ontario
Quotation marks are not needed around the title of the mosaic.

PICTURES
Required: One clear overall photo and at least one good quality picture showing details (tile and flow [grout]) that you have personally taken!
This detail picture must enable officers to determine if it's really a mosaic (see characteristics above). Officers need to see shapes of pieces; a close up picture is the best solution.
If it's not possible to determine that your submission is really a mosaic (for example: too large view), it could be declined by category officers, at their own discretion.
In this category, great photography is very important; please don't limit yourself to two pictures when creating a waymark. An overall photograph as well as the close-up of the tile and flow are the minimum - but additional photos of details are always appreciated.

LONG DESCRIPTION
Use the long description to provide some explanation about the mosaic (date, style, theme, materials used, artist name...). Please cite your sources. The bulk of the text in the long description must be left black. If the post is not in English, it would be very nice to have an English translation - though this is not required.

LOCATION
If a mosaic is located inside a building, in the Specific Visit Requirements box, give coordinates from the nearest entrance and explain how to reach the mosaic. Please include the general hours the mosaic is available for viewing and fee (if any) to visit. A URL with this information is always appreciated.
A mosaic in an airport that is within the secure area (or any other secured location) would not fit this category as only people with tickets would be able to view the mosaic. The mosaic should be of a permanent nature; not a temporary exhibit that ends at a set time period.
