Description:
In order to achieve a greater degree of realism, many movies and TV shows are shot on location away from studio backlots. These locations can be anywhere in the world. Maybe in your home town! Please be aware that there are specific posting requirements for this category. To view them, please click on "more detail" next to the category name above.
Expanded Description:

Please note that at least one actor must be in the image from the scene (this is the default photo). Without a shot of the actor on location it will not be included in the category.

This waymark category will allow you to find and log places where movies and TV shows have been filmed. This is only for exterior shooting locations or the interiors of publicly accessible buildings where movies and TV shows have been filmed.

Waymarks for locations at military bases, on private property or at any location not accessible by the general public are not permitted. Other waymarking.com users must be able to freely visit your waymark.

Waymarks for locations at movie studios, like Universal Studios Hollywood are also not allowed. These are not "on location."

And finally, the movie or TV show you're posting about must have a listing on imdb.com

Instructions for Posting a Movie Locations Waymark:

1) Locate an image from the movie or TV show shot on location which shows the specific location with an actor from the movie and post it. This is your default photo. The photo and its location MUST be described in your long description. In other words, very clearly, you must state where the still was taken. Name the exact site. The official movie poster or DVD cover cannot be the default photo. Images from some movies and TV shows can be found on the Internet. A google.com search may turn something up. (This can be a frame cap from a DVD if you have that capability. Any waymarking users who are proficeint in this capability and may be able to help with frame caps, please e-mail me.) If the location is suffiently large in size, you may be able to take a digital photo right off a TV screen.

2) Post a photo of the shooting location. This must be a photo you've taken. The photo taken by you and the still from the movie must look obviously the same. There should be as little difference as possible. Take the photo from the same angle. Photos that do not match up or photos that are obviously not the same, do not meet the criteria for this waymark, and such waymarks will be excluded. If we have to struggle to figure out the still and your photo are of the same site, you have done something wrong. Trying to force a waymark using a photo taken from a visit that was not specifically intended to shoot a site used in a film often times does not work. In other words, you gotta know what you need to take a picture of before your visit.

For example, the following shot is a promotional picture from the movie "Bull Durham" showing Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins shooting on location at Durham Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. The image was found by searching images at google.com:

Now here's a shot of Durham Athletic park today:

In the photo from the film, Costner and Robbins are on the pitchers mound and right field is in the background. While the signs have been removed, the buildings lining right field in the present day photo are visible.

Please post both images directly to the waymark page itself.

3) Post some brief information about the film or TV show, especially if it's an older show. You must give a brief sentence explaining the scene from the still. Set the context so we know where the picture was taken and what was going on at the time. Others may not be familiar with it.

And finally:

4) Post the Internet Movie Database listing for this movie or TV show from www.imdb.com.

There is a section to enter the year the film was released or the TV series started airing as well.

A film or TV show must be listed at imdb.com to qualify for posting in this category.

The title of your waymark should be: Name of Location, "Title of Movie", (like Durham Athletic Park, "Bull Durham"), so waymarking users can see both the name of the location and the film it appeared in.

With the image from the film, a picture of the location today taken by you, a brief posting on the film itself and the imdb.com listing, this would qualify as a successful submission.

If you have any stories, local legends or anecdotes for your location, please post those as well.
