A ghastly murder. A sensational robbery. Dark moments captured in the headlines. Waymarks in this category will identify the locations of these infamous crime scenes.

Acceptable waymarks in this category will identify the location of an event which:
1) resulted in an actual criminal investigation by authorities
2) received widespread coverage in the media

Listed coordinates must identify either:
1) the specific location at which the crime took place, or
2) a nearby identifiable landmark directly related to the famous crime.

Please describe the crime, including any relevant information about the victims, the location, and the results of the investigation.

A photograph must accompany the waymark. Photographs can include any related identifiable landmark (such as a building or a street sign), or a plaque or sign which documents the crime.

Other Requirements:

1) In order for your waymark to qualify for this category, you must have personally visited the location, obtained the coordinates using a GPSr and taken the qualifying photograph(s) while at the location.

2) If the descriptive text provided for the waymark includes text copied in whole or in part from another web site or sites, you MUST provide a "source" reference in the description to give credit to the source from which the text was obtained. Example: "Source: http://www.wikipedia.com/Infamous_Crime_Story"

On 11 March 1802, highwayman Robert Snooks was hanged at the scene of his crime on Boxmoor for the robbery and murder of a postboy. Snooks was the last man to be executed in England for highway robbery. The Trustees placed a grave marker in 1904. St John's Church in Boxmoor was built, in 1874, on land the Trust had provided in 1829.
