Government operated facilities that offer information regarding local attractions and activities for travelers. These are normally found along highways or major streets as you would drive into the region or town.
These must be operated by the city government, or the state/province government and we also accept locations that are run by a local chamber of commerce. These are not privately run businesses or unmanned booths that have flyers, nor are they locations that are set up to only promote themselves (e.g. a National or State Park Visitor Center). They must be managed by some form of governing agency as a benefit to local tourism.
These are often known as Travel Information Centers, Tourist Information Centers, Welcome Centers and Visitor Information Centers. These might also include facilities operated by the local Chamber of Commerce, as long as they meet the requirements of this category.
There is another category for Highway Rest Areas. Cross listings will be considered in this category as long as they meet the requirements of this category, but consider that Rest Areas and Information Centers are not the same thing.
