Description:
Memorials and monuments honoring those who fought in the United States Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence.
Expanded Description:

Memorials and monuments honoring those who fought in the United States Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence. These might be statues, monuments, plaques or other structures, but must clearly indicate their commemoration of the veterans of this war.

Excluded are markers, interpretive signs, etc. locating battle sites, or other places and events connected with the war. The site must clearly be identified as memorializing veterans.

Also excluded are grave sites of specific veterans. There is another, designated category for these sites.

If the site is part of a larger veteran memorial, then both the entire site and the specific element or portion pertaining to the U.S. Revolutionary War should be included.
Instructions for Posting a U.S. Revolutionary War Memorials Waymark:

1. Coordinates must be obtained by a personal visit to the site, and must be taken at the actual location of the memorial, not at a viewing point or entrance to a park, etc.

2. At least TWO photos are required. One picture should show the entire memorial in its context, the other must be a close-up showing the detail of the of the site. Inscriptions, list of veterans, etc. are of special interest. Do your best to showcase your waymark site!

If the memorial or monument is part of a larger war memorial site, then there should be a photo and description of the entire site, as well as the specific element or portion pertaining to the U.S. Revolutionary War, which should be highlighted.

While this is not an art category, the photos are an essential part of the waymark, and submissions may be returned if the quality or nature of the photographs is in adequate to to present the site satisfactorily.

3. Description: Rather than an extensive list of variables, this category relies on the long description. Include such things as the location and setting, any historical significance to the site itself or the memorial, other memorials that might be included, any specific individuals or events commemorated, dates, etc.

Unless it is excessively long, the text of any inscription should be included in the long description.

The objective is to present the waymark site in a thorough way, so that the viewer can get a complete picture.

4. WAYMARK NAME: The name of each waymark MUST follow this format: Memorial Name - City, State (or Country). If it is not within a city or town, then please use county or regional name - whatever best defines its location.

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.
