Typically the best time to view these fields would be annually each spring, but depending upon the species there may be multiple blooms. When in bloom these fields are a wonder to see.
In all cases these fields are a fragile ecosystem and should not be entered except along established trails. Under no circumstances should the flowers be picked. This not only would ruin the experience for the next visitor, but also reduce the number of seeds for the next year's bloom
To qualify the field must:
-
have a showy reproductive display (flowers and other displays at the officer's discression);
-
Be about half the size of a football (american or international) field;
-
Occur at least annually;
-
Be at least 1 mile (1.6 km) from another location; and
-
Publicly accessable (no residences);
