Long Distance Hiking Trails

Description:
The purpose of this category is to waymark the start and finish trailheads of long-distance walking trails throughout the world. The intention is build a database of long-distance walking trails and tracks.
Expanded Description:
Waymarks suitable for this category are the clearly defined trailheads of long distance walking trails (tracks) where long distance is defined as a walking trail where an average hiker cannot (or would not want to) complete the trail in a single day's walk, i.e., requiring one or more overnight camps.

The trail should be a walking trail. If the trail is a walking trail but also allows mountain bikes or horses for example, that is acceptable. The trail should be not able to be driven by a vehicle.

Waymarks should be for single trails, not a network of trails, i.e., a trail with the same name the whole way. As a general rule a trail should be a point-to-point or a loop hike, rather than an out and back trail.

Acceptable trailheads are the clearly defined starting and finishing points of the trail (should be signage to this effect) and where appropriate intermediate trailheads (should be signage to this effect) where it is possible to join or exit the trail, for example in a town. You may waymark one trailhead or all trailheads for the one trail.

Tell us as much as you can about the trail such as water availability, access points, details of designated campsites, water sources, information on parking etc. Suggest you use the llist of category variables as a guide to expanding your waymark description.
Instructions for Posting a Long Distance Hiking Trails Waymark:
A valid waymark will contain the following minimum information:

Trail Name + Trailhead Location in title, e.g., Cape to Cape Track Northern Trailhead
Trail distance
Trailhead location, e.g., northern terminus, southern terminus
Is a permit required? If so, where does one get one.
Photo of the Trailhead signage.

The following additional information is strongly recommended:

Details of overnight parking locations
General overview of campsites facilities
Resupply information

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
To log this waymark, you will require a photo of yourself or a member of your team at the trailhead. We would also appreciate a description of your visit to the trailhead, If you walked the trail, tell us about your experience, how long did it take you, did you do it solo, in a group? Please pass on any information useful to others who may choose to follow. The bottom line is tell us about your visit!
