Built in 1912 as the Union Bank, this building escaped the two major fires, in 1917 and in 1921, that burned the majority of the business buildings in Bellevue. It is now one of only two original commercial buildings left in Bellevue.

This is another building which is no longer with us. We are aware of its existence solely through this heritage plaque. Built in the teens, it had many owners and housed a variety of businesses and was even a warehouse for a time.

Once again, fire was both father and mother of this building, as it was built in 1922 to replace a pair of hotels destroyed in a 1917 fire. Again this year (2015) it had a close brush with fire, escaping a January blaze with damage on the front.

What can I say? The first building on this site went up in smoke when the building next door caught fire. This, the second, is also a wood frame building but has experienced much better luck.
