Description:: Many neighborhoods have their own corner grocer, that quirky little store where the locals shop, and few others know it even exists.

My family owned and operated one such market from the late 1920s through the mid 1940s. Even now, some 60 years later, this little corner grocer still exists.

The object of this group is find and document these little markets.

Expanded Description:

Waymarks posted in this category should be unique to the neighborhood where they are located. We are looking for the little mom and pop, corner grocers, or the small town general store.

Convenience stores such as AM-PM and 7-Eleven will not be accepted.

Larger supermarket type stores will generally not be accepted, but will be considered on a case by case basis. Some stores such as IGAs, and Associated Grocers are independent, locally owned and operated, and are often unique to their locale. Some chains such as Thriftway are not only unique to a region, but often their stores are are unique to the neighborhoods where they are located. Often these 'supermarkets' are the only grocer in the neighborhood or town. If this is the case, the waymark will be accepted.

Instructions for Posting a The Local Neighborhood Grocer Waymark:

NAME: The name of the store,followed by the city and state or country will serve as the waymark name. Example: Blomberg Grocery- Seattle, WA

COORDINATES: Personally obtained coordinates must be obtained as close to the main entrance of the store as possible.

PHOTOS: A minimum of TWO photos is required. One should show the entire building and the other must be a clear close-up of a sign or identifying lettering. If a historic photo of the store is available, please post that as well.

DESCRIPTIONS: Keep in mind that the quick description is what people see when browsing. Do your best to give a succinct description that will give people at a glance an overview of the waymark. Include the neighborhood name, if known, in the short description.

In the long description, include any relevant information about the history of the store and/or the neighborhood. Also include store hours if available.
