Description:
Horse racing has been going on for thousands of years. From the time man first domesticated horses, people have raced horses in some manner. This category exists to waymark horse racing venues that host one of the following forms of the sport: Thoroughbred Racing, Harness Racing, Quarter Horse Racing, Point to Point Racing, and Steeplechase/Jump/National Hunt Racing.
Expanded Description:

There are many types of racing all over the world. Thoroughbred, harness racing, and quarter horse racing are very popular in the United States. In Europe point to point racing (Flat) and jump racing (National Hunt) are the more popular forms of racing. Even Japan is heavily into various forms of horse racing, as well as Australia and the Middle East.

Regardless of where you watch your racing, this category is dedicated to waymarking permanent tracks/courses throughout the world. To qualify for waymark inclusion, the track must be a permanent course, and it must be a professional site. No home, farm, or temporary courses will be accepted. We are looking for venues with attendance figures in the hundreds, in the thousands, and even hundreds of thousands, similar to professional sports stadiums.

The animals raced at the track will need to be horses. No dog tracks, or camel racing tracks will be allowed in this category. Harness racing tracks do qualify, as do turf, dirt, and synthetic surfaces.

When doing research for your waymark, please provide as much information as possible about the venue. Any history you can provide about the track would be appreciated. What are the track surfaces available for racing there (dirt, turf, synthetic). Which direction do the horses race (clockwise, counter-clockwise, or straight sprint). What types of races are run there (Grade I, Grade II, Grade III). What size is the main track (can be measured in miles, furlongs, or meters). The more accurate information, the better.

Example of venues that are acceptable in this category would be Santa Anita Park in California, Pimlico Racecourse in Maryland, Tokyo Racecourse in Japan, Flemington Racecourse in Australia, and Ascot Racecourse in the United Kingdom.

Instructions for Posting a Horse Racing Tracks Waymark:

To create a waymark in this category, you will need to physically visit the venue to gather your information. At least one photo will be required. It can be of the outside of the track, but photos showing the beauty of the actual course are preferred.

Provide GPS coordinates from the main entrance if possible. If there are multiple entrances, please state so, and mention in the description where you have taken the coordinates from.

Try to fill out as many of the variables as you can. Some are optional, others are required. Please be as accurate as you can. Leave a variable blank rather than providing false information.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

To post a Visit for a waymark in this category, you will need to physically visit the track described in the waymark. If possible a photo of yourself at the track should be included in your log. Feel free to post some photos of the races you attended and of the fine animals you've seen. Did you have a photo taken with a Jockey?

You do not need to enter the track or attend an event to post a visit. However a photo of you outside the track with some racecourse signage is requested.

If you would like, share a story about your visit. Did you bet at the track? How much did you win? How much did you lose?
