Description:
Science museums of all types around the world
Expanded Description:
There is a wide variety of museums that may be included in this category; the only real qualification is that they be related to some branch of the physical sciences. There are general science museums, but museums of natural history may also be included. Specialized museums such as computers, electronics, archaeology, marine biology, etc. may also be included.

EXCLUSIONS:

Some types of museums and museum-like buildings that are excluded: Aquariums, zoos, nature centers that are not primarily museums, botanical gardens, transportation museums, etc. There are also existing categories for several other types of museums such as history and art. If you have a question about a museum's suitability for inclusion in this category, send a note.
Instructions for Posting a Science Museums Waymark:
** NAME: The name of the museum and its location should be included in the title. Generally this should be the city/town, state and/or country -- whatever is appropriate to its location.

The name of the museum and location in the title should be separated by a space dash space, as in this example:

Museum of Science and Technology - Boston, MA

Waymarks submitted that do not follow this naming convention will be returned for revision.

1. Coordinates obtained from your personal GPS readings. These should be taken from the main entrance to the museum If this is impossible for any reason, please state this in your description.

2. At least two original photographs -- a view showing the entire museum, or major portion thereof, and a close-up clearly showing a sign with the name of the museum. If there is no such sign, please state such and this requirement is waived, of course. GPSr photo is NOT required.

3. Narrative description -- Include as much information about this particular museum as you can, especially its unique features, history, etc. Rather than try to list every type of museum in the variables, include the details here -- the museum's theme, genre, type, specialty, etc. In other words, what type of science is on display here is what we're looking for. Waymarks with no description will be returned for resubmission.

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.

LANGUAGE NOTE: We recognize waymarking as a global hobby and welcome waymarks from all countries. Because of our international scope, we also acknowledge ENGLISH as our lingua franca. English will create the highest level of accessibility globally. All waymarks must have at least a short description in ENGLISH. We encourage bilingual and multilingual waymarks, but one of the languages must be English. We have volunteer translators to help.

Relying on software or internet based translators, such as Babylon and Google Translate, may NOT yield accurate translations that are intelligible. Use these only when there is no alternative. Although we do not expect grammatical perfection, a waymark may be declined if there the English language is not understandable.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Post one photo of the museum that is a different view from the one on the page, and describe your visit. Add any additional information that you may have about this building. A GPSr photo is NOT required.
