Description:
Locations of places and objects directly related to the life, accomplishments, inventions, and events of one of America's most prolific historical figures - Benjamin Franklin.
Expanded Description:
Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790) was a statesman, scientist, philosopher, inventor, and author. He also played a major role in the American Revolution, was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and helped draft the United States Constitution.

Reminders of Franklin's life and contributions can be found in various locations in America and Europe. This waymarking category has been created to help capture these locations.
Instructions for Posting a Benjamin Franklin Waymark:

To create a waymark in this category, you must record the location of a place or an object directly related to the life, accomplishments, or inventions of Benjamin Franklin. To be accepted, the location must meet the following criteria:

1) You must have personally visited the location, obtained the coordinates using a GPSr, and taken the qualifying photograph(s) while at the location.
2) You must provide one or more pictures of the location or the object
3) The location or object must be directly related to the American founding father Benjamin Franklin, NOT something which simply bears his name.

Examples of acceptable waymarks:

° Specific locations where Franklin is known to have lived, visited, or worked. A plaque or a referenced source must be provided as proof that Franklin spent time at that location.
°Locations of graves, such as Franklin's own grave, the grave of his parents, or graves of his direct descendents. °Locations of buildings known to contain artifacts that can be tied directly to Franklin. °Locations of Franklin Mile Markers. °Locations of museums which contain one or more portraits of Benjamin Franklin. In these cases, your submittal must include a photo of the portrait (taken by you, or a non-copyrighted depiction of the portrait from some other source). °Locations of places or objects established specifically to memorialize Franklin, including busts, plaques, parks, and statues. In these cases, there must be a permanent physical memorial to Franklin which bears his likeness or name. °Locations of institutions and organizations founded by Franklin, as long as the location being recorded is the original location selected or visited by Franklin.

Examples of unacceptable waymarks:

° A building, school, street, or commercial enterprise whose only connection to Franklin is his name.
° Locations of places indirectly or only loosely connected to Franklin's life (for example, the location of a Franklin stove or a post office are not acceptable, unless that particular building or artifact has a documented direct connection to Franklin himself).
