Preserved Machines on Public Display
Description:

Sometimes, old machines are preserved and put on display after their activity period. They often provide interesting information about the history of technology and science and are sometimes more decorative than many sculptures. We are looking for preserved machines on display all over the world.

Please take a look at the Expanded Description for further details.
Expanded Description:
Wrap Text around Image There are many possible definitions for a machine. For this category, machines are defined as complex tools that are used in an industry to achieve a particular goal. This goal can be to create or process primary or final products or energy, move weights, flow control and similar actions. Historically, machines used to have movable parts, but opposed to vehicles, they do not move themselves. (But machines that used to be mounted on vehicles can qualify for the category.) This category is not for agricultural, household or military equipment (there are existing categories for these types of equipment). The focus is on industrial machines and their ancestors.

The machine must be preserved and put up for display to educate and/or entertain the public. It can also be a reconstruction. Abandoned equipment and drop-off does not qualify. If this is not obvious - a marker, a pedestal, or fresh paint are good hints - then some documentation is required to prove the preservation status.

Parts of machines are accepted if they have a substantial size or show the leading principle of a specific machinery; a simple gearwheel is not enough.

Objects must be accessible by the public free of charge. This excludes museums that charge admission and exhibits inside non-public parts of commercial buildings.

Old vehicles are not accepted in this category. If you found one, you will most probably find a place for it here:
Sub-categories of Vehicles

You may also try the Old Agricultural Equipment category.

Also, the Household Appliances and Presses category may be another option for preserved household items in places that charge admission and cannot be submitted here.

Instructions for Posting a Preserved Machines on Public Display Waymark:

Please use the following naming convention to name your new Waymark: Name of the machine - City, State, Country (whichever is appropriate)
