Petting Farms and Zoos
Managed By: Icon Here Feed the Animals
Petting farms and zoos are places created expressly to allow people, especially children, to interact with animals, domestic or wild.
Expanded Description:
Children love them, and adults do too! The public is invited to pet the animals! Sometimes they can be picked up, ridden, and fed.

To qualify for inclusion in this category, the location must be one that is expressly for personal interaction with animals, and open to the public on a regular basis. This must be its primary purpose. Usually it will be called either a "petting farm" or "petting zoo." It may be either private or public.

NOT included in this category:

Petting or visiting areas that are part of a regular zoo or animal park, UNLESS it is has a separate entrance fee.

Petting zoos that are part of a fair, carnival or other temporary or traveling venue.

Farms that allow occasional visits to see the animals.

Bird sanctuaries, aquariums, or animal shows, even though they may offer some interaction with the animals. This includes interactive venues for aquatic mammals such as dolphins and whales.

Instructions for Posting a Petting Farms and Zoos Waymark:

1). COORDINATES: Personally obtained coordinates must be obtained as close to the entrance of the facility as possible.

2). PHOTOS: At least TWO photos are required. One must be a clear close-up of a sign or other identifying letting, and one must be an overview of the entrance. We love animals! So, we encourage, but don't require, photos of animals.

While we don't expect professional photography, waymarks submitted with underexposed, blurred, skewed or otherwise poor quality photos may be declined. All photos must be the waymarker's original photos and be placed in the photo gallery.

3). DESCRIPTIONS: Keep in mind that the quick description is what people see when browsing, so do your best to give a succinct description that will give people at a glance an overview of the waymark. If you copy and paste, please give proper attribution.

Please keep your description objective. Give as much information as you can about the kind of animals, its size, what one can do (rides, feeding, special programs, etc.). Comments about your personal experience or visit and family photos should be put in a visit log.

4). VARIABLES: Please make a good faith effort to provide the information for the variables. Most are not required as they may not apply in all instances.

5). WAYMARK NAME: The city and state or country must be at the end of each waymark name. Two letter state abbreviations are preferred. Example: My Favorite Petting Farm - Anytown, MA

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Give the date and brief description of your visits. New photos are always appreciated.
