Description:
[ENG] Category referencing historical and cultural markers of France.
Expanded Description:

[ENG] "History is useful, not to read about the past, but to read about the future," wrote the Italian poet Filippo Pananti.
For man to advance, he must learn from the past and understand where he comes from.

The purpose of this category, through the presentation of French historical and cultural markers, is to encounter history, at the very spot where it happened. The visitor can thus situate the event in its geographical and social context and try to feel it in a concrete way.

Not to be confused with the category "Monuments Historiques Francais" in which acceptance is based on inclusion in the official list of a specific institution without a signage requirement, in this category, we are specifically looking for signs established by any one of a number of institutions: municipalities, tourist offices, associations ... In some cases (city of Paris, Marseille, ...) panels have a clearly defined style, but most of the time, these historical landmarks can be presented in different ways, the simplest to the most sophisticated. The aim is to discover them...

The main thing is that the historic landmark gives the visitor information specific to the very spot where it is located.

Instructions for Posting a Histoires de France (French historical markers) Waymark:
- être implanté à l'endroit concerné par les informations qu'il présente ;

[ENG] To be eligible in this category, a historic landmark must:
- Provide historical information (which is easily recognised by the presence of dates, a chronology, etc.)
- Be located in France and in the departments and territories overseas.
- Be located in the area concerned at the information it presents;
- Be accompanied by a photo representative but also, if possible, a photograph of his subject (monument, site).

UPDATE: July 17, 2017

- The photo representing the sign must be the first photo and the second photo must represent the place indicated on the sign.

- You must make every attempt to follow a naming convention: Title of the sign - City - Country.

- Citations are allowed, but must be clearly declared, including the source.

- The description must be in English, but if you want you can add other languages.

END UPDATE

The text appearing on the panel may be copied in the "Long Description" or photographed (and therefore attached to waymark) or summarized (keeping, however, sufficient information).

Sometimes these panels are used within Geocaching (collection of information for multi-caches, solving riddles of mystery).
Geocaching and Waymarking games are "cousins" but different. Also each waymarker is free to waymark or not a panel. Just as it is free to mask certain information or not.
Keep in mind, however, that a specific field "Elements encrypted" is at your disposal to put information to hide, while leaving them accessible. Suffice it to write your text accordingly and / or make-up photos of the panel.
Alternatively, in the "Alternative visit requirements", it is possible to propose a question of the same type as the ones used for the geocache. This will serve as proof of visit.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
[ENG] A proof of your visit is needed. Join a picture from the historical and cultural marker to your log or respond to the alternative question proposed by owner if available (if you can't provide a picture).
Category Settings:
  • Waymarks can be added to this category
  • New waymarks of this category are reviewed by the category group prior to being published
  • Category is visible in the directory
