Instructions for Posting a Worldwide Cemeteries Waymark:

Name and Title Requirements

The Name of the Cemetery
This should be taken directly from the signage, or in the absence of signage, any historical documentation

Title Conventions: The name of the waymark MUST follow this format: Name of the cemetery - City, State/Country. If it is not within a city or town, the please use another regional designation - whatever best identifies the location of the site.

Photo Requirements

Two photos are required

***UPDATE 7/7/2020*** The first and default photo requirement must be an original, non-copyright photo of the CEMETERY sign. If the cemetery has no sign, a wide-angle photo of the main entrance of the cemetery, again, this picture must be an original non-copyright.

The second picture should be an "art shot" showing the cemetery.

More pictures are always welcomed, especially those showing unique features of the cemetery.

Specifics for Church Cemeteries - what the above means that signage for the church cemetery is required, use of the actual church sign will not completely fulfill this requirement. If the church cemetery itself does not have have signage, then, the area photo of the road or sidewalk area used to access the cemetery along with the church sign, if available would be required. If and only if there isn't a road or sidewalk leading into the cemetery, this requirement can be waived by an officer's discretion.

The following picture demonstrates an acceptable churchyard cemetery sign to fulfill the first picture.

St. Boniface Church Signage

The following pictures demonstrate acceptable Pictures for a church cemetery without signage. First picture is of the church sign, second picture is of the only paved area of the cemetery/church and explained to the officers.

Coordinate and Long Description Requirements

Take coordinates at the entrance to the Cemetery. Coordinates found not to be at a normal entry to the cemetery can be denied.

Identify a cemetery and record its location. Collect as much information as you can get about this place and history. We know, that sometimes this is not so easy, but at least try it. Ideas for long descriptions could include: what is the oldest burial? What are some of the more unique headstones? Anyone famous buried here? Any research from the internet.
Waymarks without long descriptions will not be published.

When you use original text from a source for your description (e.g. Wikipedia), please cite your source(s) and mark the citation in an evident way - using either html blockquotes or quotation marks; give credit where credit is due.

We ask that all activities related to the posting or visiting of Waymarks in this category take place showing the utmost respect for the culture and beliefs of the deceased, their descendants, as well as potential visitors of the site. Always keep in mind that these activities can be a point of great sensitivity among individuals both within and outside of the community. Please act appropriately and responsibly when you are in the area of these final resting places, including observing all posted hours of access.
