Sites which are only "Islamic Centers" are not included in this category.
Expanded Description:

(Text provided by wikipedia.)

The modern-day English word "mosque", just like its equivalents in many other European languages, derives from the word masjid via Spanish mezquita.

A mosque is a place of worship for followers of the Islamic faith. The primary purpose of the mosque is to serve as a place where Muslims can come together for prayer. Nevertheless, mosques are known around the world nowadays for their general importance to the Muslim community as well as their demonstration of Islamic architecture. Another primary function of a mosque is to house educational facilities. Mosques host events and dinners either for raising money for mosque activities or simply to bring the community together and bazaars where community members can shop for Islamic merchandise are common among mosques. Mosques also host weddings, much like other places of worship. A common feature in mosques is the minaret, the tall, slender tower that usually is situated at one of the corners of the mosque structure. The top of the minaret is always the highest point in mosques that have one, and often the highest point in the immediate area, although the first mosques had no minarets, and even nowadays the most conservative Islamic movements, like Wahhabis, avoid building minarets, seeing them as ostentatious and unnecessary.
Instructions for Posting a Mosques Waymark:

[NOTE : category updated 07-June-2015 to clarify that photos need to be owned by the waymark submitter]

Up to two photos taken personally by the waymark submitter may be required when creating a waymark in this category which is an active place of worhsip. At least one photo must be of the majority of the exterior of a particularly representative side of the mosque. In the absence of a sign, a website reference in a Latin alphabet can be substituted to prove that the site is a mosque.

Reconverted buildings will require a single photo but the link to its past use as a mosque must be well documented.

Posting a photo of your visit is strongly encouraged but not required. There is NO requirement that you enter inside the mosque as some mosques may not allow this.
