The Equestrian Statues category WILL ONLY ACCEPT outdoor displays of a famous or historic person. The equestrian statue MUST be near life size.

Equestrian Statues category will no longer accept small statues that are located in a museum, art gallery, etc. We will no longer accept submissions for mythological or well-known fictional characters.

Any previous approved waymark that does not adhere to the new requirements will be grandfathered.

Instructions for Posting a Equestrian Statues Waymark:

An Equestrian Statue submission MUST be of a named famous or historical person depicted astride a horse, on permanent display, a free-standing statue, located outside and open to the public.

Equestrian Statue category will NOT accept any generic, unnamed riders such as Soldiers, Indians, Warriors or the like.

To post a new waymark:

  1. Visit the statue in person and post at least three photographs that clearly shows the rider astride the horse. There must be a close up of the rider, an overview of the statue and one showing its relationship to the area. Include a photo of any signage or plaques found at the statue. A transcription is encouraged.
  2. The waymarker must personally obtain GPS coordinates.
  3. In the long description include: a minimum of three (3) sentences. You can include the name of the rider, title and name of horse, artist and date dedicated, of known. What brought to this location, your impression of the statue, describe the location, history of the rider and/or any unique or interesting features of the statue. The 3 sentence requirement is a personal narrative and is in addition to any copied text.
  4. If you are using text from any source, you are required to use quotation marks and provide a source link below the quoted text. This will distinguish it from the personal narrative. You have the option to use a blockquote, provide the source link.
  5. An English translation is required, however multi-lingual submissions are encouraged.
  6. Naming requirement: NO tilde (~) or double hyphens (--) are allowed in the title.

    To name your submission: include the title, if applicable and name of the rider, city, state/province. In the title please omit descriptors such as: bronze or other compositions, monument/statue or a location such as a park, trail, physical address, etc.

    Please follow the naming examples provided below.
    Abbreviations are acceptable for state or province. (Country is optional)

  7. Example: Queen Elizabeth II - Regina, Saskatchewan
    Example: General Joseph Orville Shelby - Waverly, MO
    Example: King Louis IX - Blois, France
