Description:: Find and photograph the places that look their best when the sun goes down.

Expanded Description:

This category is for waymarking those places you like to visit at night, because of the view. There are places around the world that really come alive in the night time.

Some examples include lit waterfall displays, city overlooks, active volcanoes or any other areas whose beauty comes best after the sun has gone down. You may find a unique local feature, like a mine that pours out glowing tailings on a slope (Sudbury).

The location must be scenic! It should be a place that will look best when it is dark outside.

YOU must not be providing the light!

The location must be permanent, whether it is human created or natural.

The location must be a place that a waymarker is allowed to visit at night. Please do not list areas that close after dark.

We understand that 'scenic' is a relative term, and we're looking forward to the variety this could entail. We would prefer to keep the waymarks "unique", and ask that the overly common scenes are excluded.

Things we do not want to see:

Typical urban/suburban streets or highways.

Store fronts

Neon Signs

Temporary displays (example, Christmas Lights)

Light provided by you

Instructions for Posting a Scenic at Night Waymark:

Find a place that has a good view once the sun has gone down. Post a good quality photograph of the scene at night. Daytime photos will not be accepted! Try to demonstrate why the location is scenic in your default photo. We ask that the default photo does not include you or your GPS unit.

Night photography differs from daytime photography - you will most likely need to use a tripod. The default photo should be a good quality photo. We will not accept photos that are grainy, or blurry.

DO:

Take your (default) photo well after sunset. Everything is scenic at sunset/sunrise - we want this to be about night.

Use a tripod if necessary.

Use your camera's timer or remote (if you have one)

Provide clear instructions on how to get here

List if there are any hazards to getting here at night (example: cliff)

DON'T:

Post a blurry or grainy photo. This rules out 99% of cell phone cameras at night.

Include yourself in the 'default' photo.

List an area that is off limits at night.

Provide any of the light in the default photo.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

Please post a quality photo of the view. You can include yourself, and it's OK if your GPS is in the photo (example, wearing it around your neck).

Blurry, or grainy/noisy images will be rejected. You will probably need a tripod and we don't recommend the use of a camera phone
