Description:
This Category is for Waymarking all of those historical marker sites around the UK and marker sites across the world with British connections. Historical marker sites provide visitors with important, interesting information and provide us with a chance to stop to rest while travelling.

Use the approved UK Region Map to choose your Region: visit link

Expanded Description:
Each country has valued historic sites which are classified under the Historical Marker department. In the United Kingdom we have numerous plaques and curious objects which are preserved remnants of a time gone by. We want to share these with the rest of the world in this category.

In order to be listed the object must be at the spot where history was made. This means it must be local to the specific area. In most instances it will be accompanied by a plaque issued by a governing body; this could be a municipality, a tourist office or an association like a Council. Normally these plaques are a standard design but can vary between regions.

We will also accept cross-waymarking from other countries which have UK specific historic markers relating to their heritage. For example British colonization markers and locations with plaques where British influence has been felt which can be found all over the world. This category seeks to discover and catalogue these interesting sites.

We want to keep this category interesting and general but we do need some guidelines. Therefore, the following are examples of what we are not looking for: churches (interior or exterior items); churchyard and cemetery items; blue plaques; busts/statues; war memorials or building date stones.

We are looking for the following: plaques depicting events or historic records, we are not looking for large buildings but if there is a plaque accompanying it, it will be acceptable, i.e. a National Trust castle with an information board. Bridges with historical markers on them will be appropriate. Village oddities such as pumps, wells, horse troughs and stocks etc may have plaques or will be mentioned in local historic records, information MUST be provided with relevant web links.

Instructions for Posting a UK Historical Markers Waymark:
You need to take a photograph of the object/place and then a general view of the area with it in the picture. You must have personally obtained the location co-ordinates with you GPSr. Please respect private property and seek permission if it is in an indoor setting.

Please include any text on the marker plaque in your description, stating it in quotes. Exceptions will be granted if the plaques are clearly legible in the photographs.

It is necessary to include as much information about your submission as possible together with any credits or links.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
