This waymark is designed to collect locations and pictures of flags of local communities all over the world. Local communities can be anything that can be pinpointed in a map such as:
- Cities all over the world
- Counties, as long as they are not the largest subdivision of a sovereign country
- Islands, as long as they do not constitute a country (like Jamaica) or a state (like Newfoundland).
There are probably many other acceptable subcategories we can’t think of yet and we will decide about them upon submittal. Please do not submit flags of countries or the largest administrative subdivision of a country. So:
- no US States, or Canadian Provinces,
- no British Countries, French Regions or German Bundesländer, etc.
We are only interested in flags of communities, so please do not submit flags of sports teams, political parties, businesses, clubs and associations, military units or state agencies.
The flag should also be a true representative of the community and not just support a business. Therefore we request that the flag is locate on public ground such as
- in front of the town hall
- at a local plaza
- in front of a police or fire department
- in front of a public school or library
Please do not submit flags displayed by hotels, banks, commercial airports, etc.
Submissions must include the location of the flag and a picture clearly showing the details. Here are some good and bad examples:
