A Foucault Pendulum may look like it's just a swinging ball, but it's actually demonstrating the rotation of the earth!
Expanded Description:

A Foucault Pendulum

Acording to the Smithsonian Institute: "The Foucault Pendulum is named for the French physicist Jean Foucault [(pronounced fü-'kO)], who first used it in 1851 to demonstrate the rotation of the earth. It was the first satisfactory demonstration of the earth's rotation using laboratory apparatus rather than astronomical observations."

So, basically, it's a large pendulum that knocks down pegs as the day progresses. It may look like it's the pendulum that changes direction to knock down the pegs, but you need to keep in mind, that it's the earth that is moving the pegs into the pendulum's path!

These pendulums can be found all over the world and are most commonly found in science museums, universities, etc.

Check out the Encyclopedia Smithsonian for more information on the Foucault Pendulum.
