|  Chaplain Thomas M. Bulla
in Virginia Historical Markers In April 1917, a popular young Presbyterian minister
left his church to accompany soldiers from
the area to boot camp. When the division sailed for France, Thomas Bulla went along as chaplain. He stayed with his men in the trenches, assisting the wounded and the sick without regard to personal danger. Then,
on October 15, 1918, during the battle along
the Meuse, Bulla was himself wounded. He
