This is a quite spectacular sea cave/tunnel, which as far as I know is the only one anywhere on the Palos Verdes coast and maybe the entire Santa Monica Bay.

The sight of the cave, even from the bluffs 200’ up, is available only to walkers/hikers and CANNOT be seen while driving. The ocean water washes through the cave quite dramatically, especially at higher tides. At low tides you can walk around the cave (not through it) to get to tide pool areas.

The only free/legal parking areas are both about 1.1 miles away so you will need to walk. It is a scenic walk along Palos Verdes Drive South, and you needed the exercise anyway. 1) Lots of parking in 42xx block of Admirable but look carefully for unrestricted parking areas. About N 33 44.156, W 118 21.223. 2) Very limited parking in front of LA County fire station in 61xx block of PV Drive South, west of Sea Cove Dr. About N 33 44.693 W 118 23.026.

If you don’t want to hike down to the ocean, you can see it from the bluffs on Inspiration Point at N 33 44.343 W 118 22.159. At this spot you will find the memorial marker for the 4 year old who met her death on Inspiration Point. You will see the cave (at the bottom of Portuguese Point) if you look 0.3 miles SW and 200 feet down.

Regular shoes are fine for the walk to the bluff-top viewing area. If you are wearing hiking boots you may wish to use one of the several trails descending to the sea cave to see it up close. Although a small part of the beach here is sandy, it is mostly very rocky. Wonderful tide pooling around the cave, especially at low tide. The trailhead closest to direct access to the sea cave is in the best condition but also steepest, at N 33 44.366, W 118 22.311.
