Additions have been made at the rear of the building, which somewhat disguises its original appearance. And, the tracks are gone. Positive identification was made by a USGS benchmark (EZ0719) embedded in the southeast wall.

The original roof line is clearly visible in the aerial photograph. Union Station also was used by Southern and Norfolk-Southern. It is at the corner of Dawson Street and West Martin Street, next door to the Raleigh Central Fire Station, and across the street from a city park.
