This sculpture of a typewriter eraser comes from the pop generation of art. It was proposed by Swedish artist Claes Oldenburg in 1975 and actually sculpted by Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen in 1999. It's abstraction comes from the enormouse scale of an everyday object.
Pop artists sought to make us appreciate the art and form of everyday items by changing their scale, setting, or spatial orientation.
The sculpture's current home is next to the Museum of Pop Culture.
