Long Description:
The Pioneer Park Nature Center in Lincoln, Nebraska was established in 1963 and is operated by the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department. The 668 sanctuary, located at the west end of Pioneer park includes sections on two sides of Haines Branch Creek. There are over eight miles of trails. Th area on the south side of the creek, reached by a pedestrian suspension bridge, is mostly undeveloped and remains in a natural state with dirt or mowed grass trails. The area north of the creek, closest to the entrance and to the access road, has wood chip trails around three ponds, through wooded and prairie areas and across a boardwalk. There are numerous secluded benches.

The Chet Ager Building, the main interpretive center, contains a variety of exhibits including live animals and a bee skep. A large herb garden is located next to this building. Outdoor animal exhibits include Bison, Elk, White-tailed deer, Turkeys and non-releasable raptors. The newest addition to the center is The Prairie Building with prairie and live animal displays and a meeting auditorium.

The center is open year round and it offers many activities including school program, preschool programs, scout badge work, nature day camps, night hikes and many special events. A current listing of programs and events can be found at the center's website.
