UNFORTUNATELY LIKE SO MANY OTHER SCENIC BRIDGES IN PENNSYLVANIA, THIS BRIDGE HAS BEEN TORN DOWN.

This was a serendipitous find for us. We were taking PA 949 from Summerville to Corsica in search for several Pennsylvania State Historical Markers to Waymark. We came around a bend and wow! Look at that! We had no idea that we this viaduct was here.

We were not able to find a lot of information about this beautiful viaduct. While we were taking pictures, an apparent local resident stopped on the road. We gathered from him that the track was no longer used, but with an approaching car our conversation was cut short.

From the site listed below, it appears that this track was originally part of the New York Central System. Apparently it was still used by Conrail until a few years ago. If, indeed, this section of track is in jeopardy as the site below indicates, there appears to be no rush in tearing anything down. The information below is dated June of 2001. Estimating, the height of the track is about 80 to 100 feet above the highway. Looking at Microsoft TerraServer, we estimate of the length of the trestle to be between 1100 and 1200 feet.

The viaduct is located about half way between Summerville and Corsica on PA route 949. There is a dirt road about a tenth of a mile north of the viaduct which has adequate space for parking and photos at N41 09.135 W79 11.391. Do not stop your vehicle on 949 at the viaduct. The traffic, though sparse, moves very fast and the road is curved.
