The Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial is located on the Washington State Capitol campus near the Temple of Justice. It was dedicated in May of 2006.
Since 1855, 34 years before Washington Territory became a state, over 275 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty. The names of these are carved into the Memorial.
The memorial was built by the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation who raised money for the memorial through fundraising events, private donations, and the sale of special WSLE Memorial license plates. Along with building and maintaining the memorial, the Memorial Foundation also provides support and assistance to the survivors and families of law enforcement officers in Washington killed in the line of duty.
In the gallery I've included a close-up of the name, Patrick Maher, an officer from our town of Federal Way who was shot in the line of duty 4 years ago.
