Ransom's Assault
General Matt Ransom's brigade formed in line of battle near here in the final Confederate attack, April 20, 1864.
This historical marker is located on East Main Street west of Conaby Creek in Plymouth. It was erected in 1961.
In addition to serving in the Confederate Army, Matt Whitaker Ransom (October 8, 1826 - October 8, 1904) was a Democratic U.S. senator from the state of North Carolina between 1872 and 1895.
