Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point is a great place to visit. Built in 1872 and started as the Snowy Butte Mill this mill is filled with living history. The mill claims to be the only operating grist mill in Oregon that still produces stone ground products. It still uses the same stones for grinding that were shipped around "The Horn" in the 1800's The milling process is accomplished not with a traditional water wheel but by using a penstock (sluice) and turbines. The penstock forces water past the turbines which turn the belts and pulleys that move the French quarried millstones.
