From the plaque:

"The Battle of Bunker Hill, fought here on Breed's Hill, June 17, 1775, was the first major military confrontation of the Revolutionary War. Although the British won the battle - at a terrible cost - it was a great moral victory for the Patriots, who proved that they would and could stand up against the British regulars. This monument of Quincy granite, built between 1825 to 1843, stands today as memorial to the courage, purpose, and sacrifice of those Patriots of 1775, whose actions here rallied the Colonies and prompted George Washington to declare, 'The liberties of our country are safe.'"

The Bunker Hill Monument is obviously a very historic site, and actually has several plaques dedicated to its story. Feel free to post pictures or transcriptions of any of them - with one caveat.

There is a plaque near the monument whose bottom line is "Fortified this hill on June 16, 1775." Please do not post any pictures or transcriptions of this plaque, as it is part of a puzzle cache. I encourage people to go for this one, actually, although it might take more than a day, depending on your schedule.

Visit Instructions:
When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. The picture does not have to be of the marker - one picture of the marker is enough. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
