This Rock is the one that everyone seems to know about. In 2003 and 2004 E-mail was sent back and forth across the country with attached pictures. One of the scenes was a soldier at the Vietnam Memorial and a flag was drapped over the top of the scene. That was part of the 2003 scenes painted on the rock.
This rock was first painted in 1999. Each year, before Memorial Day, it is repainted with new scenes. Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II is the local artist who spends one to three weeks creating new scenes. This year, The green helicopters on the northeast side contain the ashes of a few Vietnam Veterans. Instead of sprinkling the ashes at the rock, he offered to have them put in the paint.
