Fool Soldiers MonumentHugh Glass was mauled here at the Forks of the Grand River and left for dead, he managed to survive and crawled his way to Ft. Kiowa, 190 miles away as the crow flies. He was later killed by Aricara Indians near the Mouth of the Big Horn on the ice of the Yellowstone River. The photo on the right is a view of the rear of this monument showing samples of the petrified wood which is abundant in and near the Lemmon, SD area. Located near Shadehill Lake (GCFF3C) Cache in SD. For more of a very interesting story and great scenic vistas, visit this monument, you'll love it.
