In the early 1960's, 35-40 alligators, taken from a local closed alligator farm, were set loose on the city of Mesa, Arizona. These alligators showed up in the canals, irrigation ditches, high schools and even the city pool. Rumors abound that some were released into the local lakes. The high school alumni website still discusses the alligator invasion and speculates on those responsible from among their ranks.
