Unless you have your own boat, the only way on or off of Ocracoke Island is by ferry. There are two ferry terminals on Ocracoke, this one and one at the Village of Ocracoke about 14 miles south.

This terminal is the southern terminus of the Hatteras to Ocracoke ferry run. This is a free ferry ride of about 40 minutes. The Ferry Division was operating seven ferry boats on the Sunday summer afternoon I took the ferry from Ocracoke to Hatteras. We passed three boats headed to south Ocracoke on the trip.

Our vessel for this trip was the M.V.S. Thomas A. Baum. These smaller ferry boats have one indoor passenger deck. Passengers are also free to roam the vehicle deck or stay in their cars during the passage. There's a lot to see along the way. We saw people who'd waded into the sound to fish, kite boarders, sand bars and a quite a few pleasure boats.

To record your own visit to this waymark, take and post your own photo of the waymark with your log. Logs must contain an original photo as proof of your visit, please.
