I first discovered this benchmark in 1965, after moving to Clinton as a teenager.
While getting GPS coords for this marker, my GPS unit had an accuracy of 96 feet. Seeing the coords on a topozone.com map, It appear my coords are 75 feet to the NW of the marker.
Drive the Eagle Point Park's North Loop Road. Continue down the road past the over-look with the mounted binoculars. At the next parking area near the maple grove you will want to park near the north end of the parking area. From there, enter the mowed grass field and turn right, following the edge of the woods. Approximatly 150 yards north, after cresting a small hill, you will see an opening through the woods where the lawnmower goes into the next field. Just before you reach that opening, the marker is in the woods to your right about 10 feet.
Look for a small pile of gravel. The marker is just south of the gravel pile. The marker once set in the middle of a 10 feet square area filled with gravel with wood beams around the outside to hold the gravel.
The beams have now mostly rotted away, but some pieces remain. The gravel around the marker is covered with decayed leaves and sticks to the point where it almost can't be seen. I suspect that the pile of gravel was to be used to refresh the area around the marker, but it didn't get done.
The marker is raised about 2-3 inches above the gravel. There was a red ribbon wrapped around the marker when I photgraphed it.
