Zur 2000-Jahresfeier Bonns im Jahr 1989 wurde hier im rechtsrheinischen Bonn-Beuel das sogeannte Römerdenkmal eingeweiht, das an die erste Rheinbrücke im Jahre 55 v.Chr. erinnert. Es liegt an einem vielgenutzten Fuß- und Radweg in Rheinnähe und zeigt lebensgroß den damaligen römischen Feldherren Gajus Julius Cäsar. Er ist sitzend auf einem Thron abgebildet, in seiner Hand hält er die Konstruktionspläne für die Brücke. Auf der Rückseite des Throns ist "C. Iul. Caesar flumenti pontem primus imposuit a. a. Chr. n. LV." eingraviert - übersetzt: "G. Jul. Caesar hat über den Fluss eine Brücke als Erster errichtet im Jahr vor Chr. Geb. 55". Die Statue ist auf einem etwa drei Meter hohen Sockel positioniert, in den "2000 Jahre Bonn" eingraviert ist.

Es gibt detaillierte Überlieferungen darüber, wann die Brücke gebaut wurde und wie sie aussah, die Lage der Brücke war dagegen nur sehr vage beschrieben. So ging man lange Zeit davon aus, die Brücke wäre hier am damaligen Römerlager "Bonna", aus dem die heutige Stadt Bonn entstanden ist, gebaut worden. Inzwischen sind Historiker aber zu dem Ergebnis gekommen, dass der Brückenschlag bei Neuwied, etwa 50 Kilometer rheinaufwärts, erfolgt sein musste. Die Brücke war eine Jochbrücke aus Holz und diente dem Vorrücken der Truppen Cäsars über den Rhein.
For the 2000th anniversary of Bonn in 1989, the so-called Römerdenkmal (i.e. Roman monument) was inaugurated here in Bonn-Beuel right bank of the Rhine, commemorating the first bridge across the river Rhine in 55 BC. It is located on a well-used foot and bike path near the Rhine and shows the life-size statue of the then Roman commander Gajus Julius Caesar. He is seated on a throne, holding the design plans for the bridge in his hand. On the back of the throne "C. Iul. Caesar flumenti pontem primus imposuit a. a. Chr. n. LV." is engraved - translating to: "G. Jul. Caesar has built a bridge over the river as the first in the year 55 before Christ birth". The statue is positioned on a pillar about three meters high, engraved in which is "2000 years Bonn".

There is detailed information bequeathed of when the bridge was built and what it looked like, but the location of the bridge was vague. So it was assumed for a long time, the bridge would have been here at the former Roman camp "Bonna", from which the present city of Bonn developed. Meanwhile, historians have come to the conclusion that the bridge had to be at Neuwied, about 50 kilometers upstream. The bridge was a wooden yoke bridge and served the advance of Caesar's troops across the Rhine.
