Altenahr ist ein kleiner Touristenort an der Mittelahr. Er ist umgeben von Bergen, durch die zahlreiche, z.T. anspruchsvolle Wanderwege führen. Neben der reizvollen Landschaft erwarten die Wanderer Burgruinen, Kapellen, sagenumwogene Felsformationen und Berggipfel mit tollen Aussichten. Kajak-Fahrer toben sich an den Stromschnellen in der Ahr aus, Radfahrer nutzen den gut ausgebauten Fernradweg an der Ahr entlang, und bei Motorradfahrern ist die sich durch das Ahrtal windende Landstraße äußerst beliebt. Der Ort selber wird neben Hotels und Cafes vor allem von Weinlokalen und Kellereien dominiert, die ihre Weinberge in den umliegenden Bergen haben.

Das Rathaus der Verbandsgemeinde Altenahr ist mitten im Ort. Es ist ein gepflegtes und sehenswertes vierstöckiges Gebäude, das alle kommunalen Einrichtungen wie z.B. das Standesamt beherbergt. Neben dem Eingang ist eine besonders auffällige Abbildung des Altenahrer Stadtwappens angebracht.

Altenahr is a small tourist village on the middle of the Ahr River. It is surrounded by mountains, through which numerous, challenging trails lead. In addition to the appealing scenic landscape, hikers can expect castle ruins, waychapels, legendary rock formations and mountain peaks with great views. Kayak riders romp around on the rapids in the Ahr, cyclists use the well-developed long-distance cycle path along the Ahr, and motorcycle riders love the country road winding through the Ahr Valley. The village itself is dominated by hotels, cafes, and especially by wine bars and cellars, which have their vineyards in the surrounding mountains.

The town hall of the municipality Altenahr is in the middle of the town. It is a well maintained and worth seeing four-storey building, which accommodates all the communal facilities, such as the registrar's office. Next to the entrance is a particularly striking depiction of the Altenahr coat of arms.
