Das Hotel zum Schwarzen Kreuz ist eins der auffälligsten und schönsten Gebäude im Touristenort Altenahr. Die aufwändig gestaltete Fassade zeigt die lange Tradition des Hotel- und Restaurantbetriebes: Auf Fensterläden und Holztafeln sind Portaits von Personen geschnitzt worden, die zwischen 1100 und 1834 mit dem Gasthaus in Verbindung standen.

Über der den Fenstern der zweiten Etage befindet sich an der Fassade ein auffälliges Schild mit den zwölf westlichen Sternzeichensymbolen. Es handelt sich um ein rundes, bronzenenes Schild mit etwa einem Meter Durchmesser. In der Mitte ist die Sonne abgebildet und am Rand - zwischen den Strahlen der Sonne - sind mit goldener Farbe die Sternzeichensymbole aufgemalt. Zu beiden Seiten des Schildes sind gußeiserne, verschnörkelte Verzierungen an der Wand angebracht. Abends ist das Sternzeichenschild beleuchtet.
The Hotel "Zum Schwarzen Kreuz" is one of the most striking and beautiful buildings in the tourist town Altenahr. The elaborately designed facade demonstrates the long tradition of hotel and restaurant operations: Portraits of people associated with the hotel between 1100 and 1834 have been carved on shutters and wooden panels.

Above the windows of the second floor, there is an eye-catching sign with the twelve western Zodiac symbols on the facade. It is a round, bronze shield about one meter in diameter. In the middle is the sun and on the edge - between the rays of the sun - the Zodiac symbols are painted with golden color. On both sides of the shield cast-iron ornaments are attached to the wall. In the evening the Zodiac sign is illuminated.
