Located on the gravel walkway to the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse is a brick pedestal with two bronze plaques. The top bronze plaque is a historical marker that reads as follows:
"Cape Canaveral Lighthouse
Originally constructed in 1868 overlooking the Cape
Canaveral beach. Due to shoreline erosion, the
lighthouse was dismantled and moved 1 1/2 miles inland
in the early 1890's. In July 1894, the light was relit at the
new location."
The pedestal that the marker is on has a second bronze plaque located at the base with the following inscription:
"Composed of Bricks from the
Original Cape Lighthouse
Built by Eagle Scout Kenneth Wyse
Troop 705
2002"
These bricks are from the first lighthouse that was built in 1848 and was later replace by the current lighthouse.
