Artist is shown as Leonard Morse, as this is copied after his work.
"In 1818, as the New Hampshire state capitol building was nearing completion, this majestic eagle was placed atop the building’s dome in a grand dedication ceremony. Crafted out of wood, the eagle stood approximately six-and-a-half feet tall and weighed 600 pounds.
"In the years following, it took a beating due to New Hampshire’s harsh weather, undergoing repairs in 1865 and 1910 that required it to be temporarily removed from the capitol building.
"In 1957, it was replaced with a copper replica, identical in its dimensions except for the turn of its head: the original eagle was looking to its left, while the replica is turned to its right." ~ Concord Monitor, April 21, 2017
