Cette nécropole fut inaugurée le 15 août 1964 par le général De Gaulle. Y ont été regroupés les corps de 464 combattants de toutes origines et toutes confessions, appartenant à la 1ère armée française (1ère DFL) commandée par le général de Lattre de Tassigny, tués au cours du débarquement de Provence. Ces corps ont été exhumés des cimetières militaires communaux du Var. "Généreuse Provence, nous te les confions. En Août 1944, ils sont tombés sur ton sol pour la Liberté. Veille à jamais sur eux". "Le Général de Gaulle, président de la République, est venu le premier s'incliner sur leurs tombes le 15 Août 1964".

This cemetery was inaugurated on August 15, 1964 by General De Gaulle. The bodies of 464 fighters of all origins and all denominations, belonging to the 1st French Army (1st DFL) commanded by the General de Lattre de Tassigny, were grouped together, killed during the landing of Provence.
