A memorial plaque to Richard Everard (d.1610) in the north transept of St John the Evangelist church, Shenton.
The inscription reads -
Here lyeth buried ye bodies of Richard Everard &
Jane his wife wch Rich: was ye sonn & heire apparet of
Robart Ever: who lyeth also here buried, & the
saide Jane was ye daughter & heire of Rich: Water
ton of Borowe in the Mersh: in ye county of
Lincolne. Ye said Rich died ye 8th day of December
Ao Dni. wch was 35. Rae Elizab: & ye saide Jane died
the 10th of Ap:1610. They had betwene them I son
& I daughter. They lived in this world not many
yeares but died in hope of a joyfull resurection
through Christ"Richard Everard's father (Richard, the elder) and his grandfather, Robert Everard, bought extensively in Shenton Sibson and Market Bosworth . The purchases by Richard the elder included the manor of Shenton, c. 1578 and those by Robert Everard-the lands formerly belonging to Ulverscroft Priory. Farnham, op. cit ., Vol. IV, p. 68. The 13th Jan, 1610, Richard Everard was charged with depopulation in the Court of Star Chamber. St. Ch. Proc. 8 / 17 / 16 ."
