A memorial plaque to Robert Everard (d.1597) in the north transept of St John the Evangelist church, Shenton.
The inscription reads -
Heere lieth buried the bodyes of Robert Everard
and Margarett his wife, Wch Robert was the sonne
and heire of Richard Everard, whilest he lived
of Hether in the County of Leyster, and the sayd
Margarett was one of the daughters of Thomas Wol-
erston of Culpho in the Countye of Suff: The said
Margarett dyed the VIIIth daye of January 1582 and ye
said Robert died the XIIIth daye of March 1597.
They had betwine them 4 sonnes and V daughters.
They lived in the feare, and died in ye faith of Christ"Richard Everard's father (Richard, the elder) and his grandfather, Robert Everard, bought extensively in Shenton Sibson and Market Bosworth . The purchases by Richard the elder included the manor of Shenton, c. 1578 and those by Robert Everard-the lands formerly belonging to Ulverscroft Priory. Farnham, op. cit ., Vol. IV, p. 68. The 13th Jan, 1610, Richard Everard was charged with depopulation in the Court of Star Chamber. St. Ch. Proc. 8 / 17 / 16 ."
