The bust is located in the small garden on the north side of the commercial building across from the Basilica. It was gift from the state government of Salzburg, Austria.
The high relief piece is the work of Austrian sculptor Anton Thuswaldner.
The base of the marble piece is inscribed with:

An accompanying plaque proclaims:
Este monumento, obra del escultor austriaco anton thuswaldner, donado por el estado federado de Salzburgo, fue solemnemente develado el dia 17 de novembre de 2007 con la presencia de Su Excelencia Dr. Johannes Skriwan, Embajador de Austria en Cuba, el Dr. Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg, Presidente de la Fundacion Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana.
English translation:
This monument, the work of the Austrian sculptor Anton Thuswaldner, donated by the state of Salzburg, was solemnly unveiled on 17th November 2007 with the presence of His Excellency Dr. Johannes Skriwan, Ambassador of Austria in Cuba, Dr. Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg, president of the founding historian of the City of Havana.
The square is a quick five minute walk from the ferry and ship terminal.
