The DB Museum Koblenz was inaugurated on April 21, 2001 as the first outdoor location of the DB Museum Nuremberg. It is run by volunteers as part of the Foundation Bahn-Sozialwerk (BSW).
The DB Museum Koblenz is housed in the former freight wagon repair shop in the Lützel district. The plant was built in 1905 as part of the redesign and expansion of the freight yard Lützel as railway depot Koblenz-Lützel.
Originally, the area included a large roundhouse with a double turntable, in which the freight locomotives were located, as well as the wagon shed, were repaired in the 1995 freight wagons. Today it houses the oldest vehicles of the DB Museum Koblenz.
The old railway depot was demolished in several sections until the beginning of the eighties.
In the outdoor area is still a turntable with 7 rail connections.
